Here's a few tips to preserve your jewellery for a long time to come.

* You can help prevent your silver from tarnishing by storing your pieces in the jewellery bag or gift box that comes with your purchase, an air tight bag or container when jewels are not being worn. This is to protect them from tarnishing (oxidization) caused by free radicals in the air.

*Avoid bringing jewellery into contact with hairspray, lotion, perfume or harsh chemicals such as bleach or chlorine.

*It is best to put jewelry on last while getting dressed and to remove while washing hands, performing housework, swimming, showering and sleeping.

*Last but not least, avoid storing your jewellery in direct sunlight as the colour of stones will fade and pearls will turn yellow.

The sad truth is that all silver will tarnish naturally over time. If your sterling silver has turned a golden shade or even worse, black, it just needs some cleaning.

*Tip - You can use foil and baking soda. When you expose aluminum foil to heat and a baking soda solution, you will turn the silver sulfide back to silver by electroplating your silver, making it look new brand.

Foil and Baking Soda to Clean Sterling Silver Jewellery:

- Aluminum / Tin Foil

- Bowl

- 1 cup boiling water

- 1 tbsp baking soda

- Tongs

- Microfiber cloth or silver polishing cloth

Line the bowl with the foil, making sure to keep the shiny side facing up. Pour the boiling water into your bowl and stir in the tablespoon of baking soda. Add your jewellery and let it sit in the hot water mixute for about 2 to 5 minutes. Remove the pieces using tongs and rinse them under cold water. Polish with the cloth bring out a beautiful shine in your pieces.
